3 Tips to build your first website with ease

So you want to create your first website on your own. Here are some tips that may help you think and plan for your first website so that you can launch with ease.

Here are some tips to plan your website before you even open your Squarespace account so that you have maximum clarity and strategy on your DIY journey.

“Your website shouldn’t just be pretty, it should be your best, unpaid salesperson…” - Marie Forleo

1.

Aim for the most minimal and simple.

Some people think of the website as this huge all-encompassing magnum opus of their business, offering etc. But it doesn’t have to be. Think about your website as a digital foyer for your audience. With the first headlines and visuals, they’ll know they’ve landed in the right place. They’ll spend seconds at most a couple minutes on your site. So it’s not about being elaborate and thorough, but more about how easy it is for your audience to understand why they should care.

The questions that may aid your planning stage are:

  1. What do you offer?

  2. Who is it for?

  3. How does your offering help them?

  4. Your Bio, as it relates to your offering

  5. What actions should your future client fulfill? (Book, Subscribe, Purchase)

2.

Make it easy.

If you feel deterred by the technical aspects, it’ll make it easy to stall and procrastinate. Choose a user-friendly website creating platform. Wordpress or Squarespace? I love Squarespace so that’s what I’d recommend. The all-in-one website building platform to book your clients, offer digital goods, blog, sell courses and products. Read this blog post to find out why I’ve been using Squarespace for my design studio since 2018.

3.

Start with a one page website.

Maybe at the current point in your business, a one page website is highly effective. It’s strategic to build your website one page at a time. You can build your email list as soon as you have a page up. And as your business grows, you can build out the pages as necessary. Read this blog post and see why a one page website is a super effective marketing tool and how to build one.

To summarize, progress is better than perfection. Building a website is a complex orchestration of many parts. Start with a simple website that meets your most important marketing goals. Your site will evolve through many stages as your business will do.
